State Nomination 190 & 491 All States Requirements

ACT

Must be successful with Canberra matrix (Canberra matrix is a Canberra exclusive points-based system separate from skillselect EOI).

You do not have to work in your nominated occupation if you can get skills assessment without work experience.

Subclass 190

Must nominate an occupation within the Canberra occupation list.

Must have a current skills assessment related to the nominated occupation.

Must be living in Canberra or 30-minute commute away from Canberra for at least 6 months before Canberra matrix submission.

Must be working for at least 6 months before Canberra matrix submission with at least 35 hours per week (any occupation).

Subclass 491

Must nominate an occupation within the Canberra occupation list.

Must have a current skills assessment related to the nominated occupation.

Must be living in Canberra or 30-minute commute away from Canberra for at least 3 months before Canberra matrix submission.

Must be working for at least 3 months before Canberra matrix submission with at least 20 hours per week (any occupation).

NSW

Subclass 190

Must have a skills assessment for the nominated skills assessment.

Limited invitation will be issued to the applicants with the highest EOI points based on the nominated occupation (due to the competitive nature of NSW, your EOI points has to be remarkably high to ensure invitation).

Must be residing in NSW.

Note: work experience in the nominated occupation is not a must but it will be a disadvantage because you will have fewer EOI points overall.

Subclass 491

Note: different area of regional NSW have different set of occupation list, you have to match your occupation with the occupation list of your designated area.

Living and working in regional NSW Stream

Hold a valid skills assessment for an occupation within the region’s NSW list.

Living in regional NSW

Working in nominated occupation within regional NSW in the last 12 months

Recently completed study in regional NSW Stream

Hold valid skills assessment for nominated occupation in NSW region’s list

Completed study within 24 months (the study must be in regional NSW and meet Australian study requirement)

The qualification obtained must be related or closely related to the nominated occupation within the region’s list.

Living and working outside of NSW Stream

Can either be one of these set of requirements

  1. Job offer in regional NSW
    • Hold a valid skills assessment for occupation in region’s NSW
    • Have an employment offer in the nominated occupation for at least 12 months with at least 35 hours per week
    • Employer must be located in regional NSW and registered in Australia
  2. Family ties in regional NSW
    • Have skills assessment for an occupation in region’s NSW occupation list
    • Have an immediate family member in regional NSW that satisfies all the following criteria:
      • Can either be a grandparent, parent, sibling
      • At least 18 years old
      • Either Australian citizen, permanent resident, 489 NSW
      • Has been living in regional NSW for the last 24 months
      • wrote a stat dec to confirm the above criteria

SA

Subclass 190

Must be working in the nominated occupation for at least 3 months with at least 20 hours per week post qualifications.

Preferred requirements:

  1. Proficient English
  2. 90 EOI Points
  3. Has been working in the nominated occupation for at least 12 months
  4. Working in regional SA
  5. Meet critical skills list

Subclass 491

Must be working in the nominated occupation for at least 3 months with at least 20 hours per week post qualifications.

Must be based in regional SA

Preferred requirements:

  1. Proficient English
  2. 90 EOI Points
  3. Has been working in the nominated occupation for at least 12 months
  4. Working in regional SA
  5. Meet critical skills list

Subclass 190

Graduate Stream

Have at least 1 qualification from WA institute

at least 2 years study in WA

Must be working in the nominated occupation for at least 6 months or have an employment contract for at least 6 months with at least 20 hours a week.

General Stream

At least 1 year of work experience the nominated occupation (onshore or overseas) for at least 20 hours per week post qualification

Subclass 491

Graduate Stream

Have at least 1 qualification from WA institute

at least 2 years study in WA

Must be working in the nominated occupation for at least 6 months or have an employment contract for at least 6 months with at least 20 hours a week. Your occupation must be eligible for regional on WA occupation list

General Stream

At least 1 year of work experience the nominated occupation (onshore or overseas) for at least 20 hours per week post qualification

NT

Subclass 190

NT Graduates

Have at least 1 NT qualification at an NT based institution with at least 2 years of course duration

Live in NT for at least 6 months before the date of your last qualification

Demonstrated a sustained effort to obtain employment in the nominated occupation or closely related

Other NT residents

Demonstrate that you have been residing in NT for at least 2 years prior to the application

Full time employment in NT in the nominated occupation for at least 2 years before application and at least a further 12 months (paid market salary)

Subclass 491

NT Graduates

Completed 2 years of study from NT institution while living in NT for the entirety of the study period

Other NT residents

Residing in NT for at least 12 months before application

Have skills assessment for the nominated occupation

Have been working full time in the nominated occupation (occupation has to be eligible) for at least 6 months before application and for further 12 months after application.

Employment must be based in NT

TAS

Subclass 190

Tasmanian Graduate

Graduated from a Tasmanian CRICOS institution

Have live in TAS for at least 2 years while studying prior to state nomination

Current employment is not mandatory but must provide details of how your study and skills will help you in contributing to Tasmania (if study is not related to Tasmania occupation list, you need to provide details how it can help you)

Employment offer (if applicable)

Working in Tasmania

Working in Tasmanian skilled occupation list employer must be operating for at least 12 months in Tasmania

Employment must be in the nominated occupation

Employment must be at least 35 hours per week

Subclass 491

Tasmania Graduate

Must graduate from a CRICOS institute in Tasmania

Must study for minimum 1 academic year full time and study within Tasmania

Lived in Tasmania for at least 1 year while studying

Working in Tasmania

Must be working in Tasmania for 6 months before the application (do not have to be in the nominated occupation)

The employment must be at least 35 hours per week in one full-time job or two part-time job

The employment must fill a genuine need for a position within the business.

If the employment is an ANSCO level of 4 or 5, your employment must provide an evidence that they could not find a local person to fill the role.

Family in Tasmania

You must have an immediate family member that fit the following criteria:

  • has been an Australian citizen or permanent resident for at least 12 months before application
  • Living in Tasmania 12 months before the application
  • Is a parent, sibling, child, uncle, aunt, grandparent
  • Agrees to support you in finding an employment in Tasmania

Small Business Owner

Demonstrate that you have been operating your business in the last 6 months before application (solely owned)

Demonstrate that your business will be able to generate enough income to be eligible for 191

Provide a comprehensive business plan that include research and understanding of target market, industry licencing and registration for business in Tasmania, realistic opportunities for the proposed business in Tasmania

Provide evidence of ongoing employment for further 12 months (35 hours per week)
