Canberra Matrix Strategy

Canberra matrix is a separate points-based system for ACT nomination purpose only. You need to be eligible for Canberra matrix before ACT government issue a nomination for skilled migration purpose. This system rewards you with more points and a better chance of an invitation if you have been living, studying, and working in Canberra.
These are the ideal steps for the applicants that are already in Canberra since the beginning of their visa pathway, you can consider applying the same strategy if you are willing to start over for your visa application purposes. We highly recommend that you consult with a migration agent/lawyer before making a decision. Minimum residence requirements: 3 months for 491, 6 months for 190.

Recommendation 1. Update/Open A Bank Account With An ACT Residential Address

Bank statements are crucial as evidence of your residential and employment within the ACT, the case officer will check your spending to determine that you have been spending in the ACT and shows your salary that you have received from your ACT employer. It will be difficult to argue your employment and residential if you do not have a bank account and if you receive salary payment from an employer outside of the ACT. Please note: your family member must be working and living in the ACT.

Recommendation 2. Study in your chosen field

You need to study in any field that you like, it does not have to be within the open occupation list as long as you can get a skills assessment for occupation within the critical skills list | English level requirements for occupations. You will need to make sure that you are aware of the skills assessment requirements.

Recommendation 3. Plan Your Next Move And English Test (Before Course Completion)

As every client have different case conditions and scenarios, we recommend that you consult with a migration agent/lawyer at this stage just to make sure that you are on the right track and have a backup plan just in case if your current plan falls apart. You should try and score a proficient English as proficient English (IELTS 7 / PTE 65) will help you in a significant way (more points and remove some stress for future steps).
